Moana Vā - RWLF 2022 grantee

“This support was a game changer for us!”

The Rainbow Wellbeing Legacy Fund 2022 (RWLF) was thrilled to support Moana Vā by funding a social media coordinator to enhance their social media presence and digital storytelling efforts.

Moana Vā was founded to address the needs of Pacific Rainbow+ LGBTQIA+ MVPFAFF+ communities in the Canterbury Region. With many in their community relying on social media for connection and information, optimising their online presence became essential for fostering long-lasting relationships.

Operations Coordinator Lana Shields explains, “We had been managing social media ourselves as volunteers. As we grew, it became crucial to invest in this area to better connect with our community. People appreciate seeing that visibility and support.”

Since hiring a social media coordinator, their presence has expanded from Facebook and Instagram to five platforms. Lana adds, “We aim for daily posts, fostering connections and raising awareness among allies and the community, celebrating our achievements.”

“Moana Vā is all about reducing isolation and promoting social connection. We act as referrers and connectors for our community.”

The role has also grown to include content creation, with Moana Vā developing a digital series on “How to be a Good Ally” and a podcast. The Rule Foundation is proud to support Moana Vā and their impactful work.
